Lucile Vernon, age 85, of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday afternoon, October 14, 2011 at the Ohio State University Medical Center. She was born on September 2, 1926 in Utica, daughter of the late Arthur and Essie (McClelland) Black.
Lucile retired from the Mount Vernon City Schools, where she had been a bus driver and a secretary. She was a member of the Brandon United Methodist Church and was an avid reader of Beverly Lewis’ books.
Lucile is survived by her son, Neil Vernon of Mount Vernon, daughter, Karen (Dale) Gerrard of Gambier; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Lucile was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. Vernon on March 18, 1994; and a brother, Henry Black.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of Lucile’s funeral at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. Rev. Walter Bruah Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
