Lloyd E. Volk, age 92, of Sunbury died early Monday morning, June 27, 2005 at Country View Nursing Home of Sunbury.

He was born in Leesville, Ohio on August 17, 1912 to the late Earl and Bessie (Lowe) Volk. Lloyd graduated from Leesville High School Class of 1931, then he attended college at Bowling Green University and Ohio State University receiving his master’s degree of Science in 1941. Lloyd was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, he served our country in World War II.

Upon separation from the Navy, he was the superintendent for the former Chatfield Schools, later he owned and managed the Chatfield Hardware store in Chatfield, Ohio. His last employment was in Trenton, Michigan school district, where he held the positions of principal and he retired as their superintendent.

He was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American Legion, volunteer for the American Red Cross and Community Library Board Member for a number of years.

Lloyd was a conservationist and people lover. He also enjoyed doing things for others, such as donating land for the Lowe-Volk Park in Leesville, and building the New Testament Stone Garden at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon.

On August 25, 1932, Lloyd married his wife of 66 years, Martha Mary Volk, in Michigan, whom preceded him in death on March 8, 1999. Also, preceded by Brother: Gene and Sister: Isabelle Nye.

He is survived by his loving daughters: Rowenna & John Evans, Rosalind & Lester Mohler both of Sunbury, Rita Volk (Tina Gonzales) of Denver, CO, 5 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great Great-Grandchild. Brothers: Robert (Alice) Volk of Leesville; Sister: Wanda (Bud) Trash of Leesville.

Friends may call Tuesday July 5, 2005 from 5-8 p.m and one hour prior to the service at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury where services will be Wednesday 10 a.m. with Rev. David Schroeder officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Trenton Cemetery.
