The oldest of two children of the late Max and Yetta Berman, Libby was born on August 12, 1921, in Lorain, Ohio. She graduated as the Valedictorian of her class from Lorain High School in 1939.

On October 13, 1942, Libby married the love of her life, Samuel “Sam” Babich in Lorain, Ohio, just three days before he was shipped out for his World War II US Army service overseas in Persia. His love for Libby was so strong that he wrote her five days a week for his entire tour.

They were owners of Guys & Dolls in Marion, the Treasure House in Delaware, Ohio, and the Treasure Chest in Bucyrus, Ohio, until their retirement. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2008.
