Lewis H. “Buffalo” Banks, age 64 of Delaware passed away Thursday morning, March 17, 2011 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Delaware on August 6, 1946 to the late Henry M. and Eleanor M. (Henderson) Banks. A graduate of Rutherford B. Hayes High School in 1963, he was a member of the football team. He went on to serve in the US Army from 1965 until 1967. Lewis worked as a store keeper and in the inventory department of ODOT in Delaware.

A member of Second Baptist Church, Disabled Veterans Chapter #79, American Legion in New Jersey, he was a founding member of AMVets Post No 3. Always community and politically minded, he helped build the city park on Ross St. and was a proud Democrat, who fought for what was right.

Buffalo was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Cincinnati Bengals. He enjoyed listening to the Blues music, cook outs, and spending time with family. He collected buffalo’s, which was his nick name. Fun loving, he possessed a friendly nature and a big heart, and treasured time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved companion: Deborah Alexander, Son: Lucas A. (Danielle) Banks of Columbus, Daughter: Lindsay M. Banks of Columbus, Step-sons: Jeremy (Mallory) Thomas of Delaware, Ray Thompkins of Delaware, 6 Grandchildren, Brother: Henry (Ann) Banks of Delaware, Sisters: Claudia (Michael) Hall and Marcella (Cecil) Wright both of Dayton, Carrie Nelson of N.J., nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of friends, and his beloved pets; cat Zaboo and dog Taboo.

He was also preceded in death by sister: Gloria Banks.

Friends may call Friday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware. Funeral services will be held Saturday 9:00 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church, 55 Ross St., Delaware with Rev. Lamont A. Coates officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors.
