Lester B. George, age 89, of Mount Gilead, passed away Saturday evening, August 25, 2012, at the Morrow County Hospital.

Lester was born in Morrow County on February 27, 1923, the son of the late Roy Burton and Edith America (Brown) George. He graduated from Chesterville in the Class of 1941.

On February 14, 1989, Lester married Marie Charlene Babbs in Greenup, Kentucky. They shared over 23 wonderful years of marriage together.

For over 40 years Lester owned and operated Lester George Saw Service. He would travel all over Ohio and several other states repairing sawmills. Everyone who owned a sawmill knew Lester George. He also ran a general repair shop out of his home where he would weld, sharpen lawnmower blades, and provide many other services for others.

Lester loved to play music. He played numerous instruments including the piano, guitar, banjo and marimba. He was part of the Melody Five Band and The Ventures, having played in many nursing homes and yearly at the Wayne Grange Oyster Dinner.

Lester will always be remembered as a very talented and independent man.

Lester will be dearly missed by his wife, Marie, of Mount Gilead; his nephew, Loyal (Barbara) Shaw of Stonecreek, OH; two nieces: Marilyn Green of Delaware, Diana Lehman of Hendersonville, NC; many great nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by his brother, Wilbur George; two sisters: Cecil Irene Shaw and Julia Fawn; two nephews: Mike and Warren Shaw; and a niece, Waneta Fulton.

Lester’s family will greet friends from 1 -2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating his life will be held there immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeannie Winters officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Post 8054 and AmVets Post 87 will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.
