Mount Gilead, Ohio

Katherine M. “Kathy” McCurdy, age 68, of Mount Gilead, died Monday morning, May 8, 2017, at Woodside Village Care Center.

On August 28, 1948, Kathy was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the second of five daughters of the late Forrest and Lena Mae (Dowalter) McCurdy.  Kathy attended grade school until Whetstone Schools opened making her one of their first students.

Continuing at Whetstone, Kathy worked at Whetstone Industries doing basket and cane weaving, custodial services, and training their new employees.  She worked there well into her 50’s, until she was no longer able due to her sight.

Kathy attended the First Baptist Church and New Life Community Church.

A cat lover, Kathy enjoyed the companionship of many cats over the years, and loved feeding all of the cats in the neighborhood.

One of Kathy’s favorite pastimes was watching her favorite television shows, enjoying most of the classics, like Happy Days.  She also loved playing games with her family, especially UNO, Rummy, and BINGO.

Having a heart of gold, Kathy loved her family dearly, always asking how everyone was.  She truly was such a sweetheart in every way.

Left to cherish her memory are her four sisters: Carolyn (Don) Staiger, Jennie (John) Torrey, Donna (Dave) Blair, and Sally (Sam) Mullins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services honoring Kathy’s life will be observed privately by her family.  Burial will take place in Rivercliff Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Whetstone Industries, 440 Douglas St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
