Karen Sue Scheets
March 26, 1942 ‒ June 05, 2013
MANSFIELD: Karen Sue Hendrickson Scheets, 71, went to be in the presence of the Lord Wednesday afternoon June 5, 2013 from MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.
Born March 26, 1942 in Mansfield, she was the only daughter of Charles R. and Kathryn S. (Hager) Hendrickson, and remained a lifelong Mansfield resident. She was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1960 and had previously worked at MedCentral Hospital as a ward secretary in the labor & delivery and emergency departments.
Kindness suited her: she was always willing to lend a helping hand, and she was never caught without wearing a smile. Everyday Karen put on honesty, kindness and smiles, and she wore them well. She will be remembered for her immense capacity for love.
Though she loved working crossword puzzles, playing cards and board games and talking on the phone with her family and friends, her passion was her family. Once her daughters were grown, Karen turned her attention to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thrilled when she would baby sit them and always wanted to keep up with their activities. When the grandkids weren’t around she would give a good bit of that attention to her Miniature Schnauzer, Archie.
Karen was a member of Crossroads Community Church, where she was active in a small group and had served as greeter.
She was selfless, quick-witted and loving. Described as the very “heart” of her family, they include her husband of 50 years, Fred R. Scheets; daughters Kathleen (Aaron) McGhee of Lexington, Kristeen (Jeffrey) Cline of Mansfield and Kelley Ward of Mansfield; grandchildren Brian (Tiffany) Bickers and Brandon (Danielle) Bickers all of Mansfield, David Cline stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Pensacola, Fl, Elise (fiancé Zac Robinson) Cline of Columbus, Kara Ward, Rachel Cline and Hannah Cline all of Mansfield; great grandchildren Brevyn, Brayden and one on the way; her brother Charles P. (fiancée Tina Schaffer) Hendrickson of Mansfield; brother-in-law Robert (Marjorie) Scheets of Lexington; sister-in-law Jane Kohner of Winona, MN; brother-in-law Tim Burke of Winona, MN; several nieces and nephews and a large circle of treasured friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother-in law Edward Kohner; sister-in-law Jean Burke, in-laws Fred M. & Sue Scheets, and nephew Carl Scheets.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 9, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Monday June 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. Pastor Ron Biddle will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
Contributions in Karen’s memory to either the March of Dimes or Richland County Humane Society may be made at the funeral home.
