Joseph F. Beard

Joseph F. Beard, age 80 of Delaware passed away Thursday evening, September 5, 2013 at Delaware Court Healthcare Center, with loved ones by his side.
He was born on April 20, 1933 in Watertown, TN to the late Thomas R. and Pearl (Burns) Beard. After graduating from Wilson County High School, he served in the US Army. Having lived in New York, Canada, Michigan and Kentucky, he and his family made Delaware their home in 1963.
A great lover of horses, Joe spent his career working with them, first as a groomer then as a trainer of many different breeds, working at Emerald Farms for over 38 years, and Greatways Farm for several years, at one point he had his own place to train located in Pataskala, OH. After retiring from his career working with horses , Joe continued to work in various capacities with the Delaware County Agriculture Society. Confirming his love of being outdoors.
Joe enjoyed spending time caring for his yard and tomato garden, watching old westerns , bowling and coin collecting. Joe was also a member of the American Saddlebred Horse Association for 50 years and a lifetime member of Amvets Post 3 in Delaware.
Being the southern gentleman that he was, Joe was always kind and polite, respectful and respected in return. A good natured man who always enjoyed a good laugh will be greatly missed but, remembered for his warm smile and love of family.
Survived by son, Ricardo Page of Columbus; 5 grandchildren: Jacquelynn, Stephanie, Ava, Brandon and LaTasha; 7 great grandchildren: Sean, Shanta, Isaiah, Zarreah, Malaki, Brennen; and Jakai; brothers:William and Wallace; sisters: Rose and Georgie; special friend, Janis Roberts; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Preceded in death by his wife of 40 years: Catherine (Tate) Beard who passed away in 2001; granddaughter: Carmon and sisters: Stella, Erma, Mamie and Helen.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St., Delaware.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Inurnment at Africa Cemetery at a later date.
