John W. Doran, age 75, of Mount Gilead, died Tuesday afternoon, September 8, 2009, at the Morrow County Hospital.

On July 25, 1934, John was born in Delaware County, Ohio, the son of the late Earl W. and Edith P. (Alspach) Doran. He was a graduate of Marengo High School.

John served from 1956 – 1958 in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Virginia. He went on to work for HPM Corporation in Mount Gilead for 44 years, retiring in 1997.

On August 4, 2000, John married Katherine Marie Day, sharing the past 9 years of his life with her.

With a love for sports, John cheered on the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeye football and basketball teams. He also had a strong passion for horse racing.

An honest, simple man, John liked to spend time with his family. His fun natured spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

John will be dearly missed by his wife, Marie; his three children: David Doran of Brandon, Florida, and his children: Andria and Rachel Doran; Bradley Doran of St. Petersburg, Florida; Tracey (Dan) Osgood of Chantilly, Virginia, and their children: Austin, Amanda, and Alexa Osgood; and his step daughter, Tammy Johnson of Delaware.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers: Bud and Ralph Doran, and two sisters: Violet Lorbach and Irene Fraker.

John’s family will greet friends from 1 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead where services celebrating his life will be held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Kelly Melvin officiating.
