John L. Piatt

April 10, 1961 ‒ November 30, 2015

South Bay, Florida
Formerly of Marion, Ohio

John L. Piatt, 54, passed away unexpectedly due to a heart attack on November 30, 2015.

John was a 1979 graduate of River Valley High School. After high school, he started his first business, Piatt’s Custom Exhaust, in Waldo, Ohio. In 1995, he moved to Florida and began Piatt’s Painting, Inc. where he was very well known for his professional work in the South Bay area.

John settled in the North Port area, close to the Gulf of Mexico, so he could pursue his lifelong love of fishing. When he was not working he could be found fishing in the Gulf.

John had a heart of gold and was always thinking of others. Upon his death this has become more and more apparent through the kind words and stories which have been pouring in from customers who have became his friends.

John will be greatly missed by his mom, Gloria Jean Piatt of Lady Lake, FL; sister JeanAnne (Mike) Cheney of Marion, OH; nieces, Mandy (Kristopher) Knight of Marion, OH, and Jessica Lavender of Ashley, OH; great nephew and nieces Tyler and Abbey Knight and Britney Lavender; a cousin, who was more like a brother, Clint (Joyce) Piatt; two special aunts, Diana (Gordon) Whittier and Rose (Herman) Knisley and numerous other family and friends.

John was met at Heaven’s Gates by his father Ron Piatt; grandparents, Frank and Hazel Piatt, J.W. and Ferell Henry, and Richard and Rose Williams; and an adorable little niece, Nikki.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his family to help with funeral expenses, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.

  • Very sorry to hear that John is gone. I hope you find comfort in all of memories you shared with him and feel the love from all that knew him.

  • John started off being our painter about 14 years ago and became a good friend who was always there for us in any situation. We had many dinners of fresh fish that John had caught. Although he had his share of hard times and problems, he was always smiling, courteous and a joy to have around. We have several good pictures of John taken in 2009 with his dog, whom he’d brought over to see us, if any family members would like them.

    • Penny and Bob Thank you for all your kind and thoughtful words of John, you knew my brother, just by reading what you said, That was my brother, love of fishing, his dog, and so giving. I would really like to have those pictures,I will make sure mom gets copies of them also. Please email, call, mailme.
