John E. Cheney, age 77 of Galena, died Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2007 at Willow Brook in Columbus.

He was born on February 12, 1930 in Shaker Heights to the late Homer W. and Ella Faye (Miller) Cheney. He was a 1947 graduate of Fresno High School which recently celebrated its 60 year reunion by sharing treasured memories. John retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant on February 12, 1990 after 27 years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed golf, gardening, traveling and keeping in touch with his military buddies.

He is survived by his wife: Joyce (Kata) Cheney and they were married March 19, 1952 in Fukuoka-Ken, Japan; daughters: Susan (Charles) Bunting of Galena, Carol (Phil) Bronsdon of Highlands Ranch, CO.; one granddaughter Natalie; brothers: Archie (Deanna) Cheney and Charles (Janet) Cheney all of Coshocton; sisters: Judy (Dave) Tubbs of Coshocton, Lynda Slagle of Cal.; sister-in-law: Wanda Cheney of Ariz. and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded by brother: Homer Cheney; sister Doris Evulich.

In keeping with John’s wishes cremation will take place with a memorial service for his family at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.

The family of John Cheney wants to express sincere thanks to the staff at Willow Brook for their compassionate care given to John during his stay there.
