John A. Williams, 85, of Galion, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion.

Born May 4, 1929 in Toledo, he was the son of Loren and Lena (Hail) Cochenour.  He married Shirley G. (Gilliam) Thacker Williams on July 16, 2004 and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2011.  He was previously married to Kathleen (Dixon) Williams and she preceded in him in 1992.

John worked as a contractor in Crawford County many years building and remodeling homes.  He liked to fish, spending a lot of time at Lake Erie.  He was a member of Galion Moose Lodge 303.

He is survived by children, Barbara (Mike) Walters of Galion, Michael (Marty) Williams of Mansfield, Patti Williams of Galion, Nancy (Larry) Cox of Raleigh, N.C. and Harold (Jodie) Williams of Mt. Gilead; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers, Johnny (Marlene) Williams of Galion and Orville “Red” (Curtisann) Williams of Bucyrus; sisters, Ann (Cruz) Campo, Evelyn (John) Pfeifer, Francis (Don) Poast and Wilda (Gene) Woogerd, all of Galion and sister-in-law, Ima Williams of Galion.

In addition to his wives and parents he was preceded in death by sons, Charles, Johnny and Jimmie Williams and brother, Fred Williams.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2104 at Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel, 218 S. Market Street, Galion.  A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014 at Fairview Cemetery in Galion with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating.
