Joan Jane Groll, age 93, of Waldo, died Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Marion General Hospital.

Joan was born in Marion, Ohio on December 23, 1927 to the late Roscoe Gerald and Iva Elizabeth (Dripps) Groll.  She attended school in Waldo graduating from Waldo High School in 1945.  While in school, Joan excelled at sports; especially basketball and softball.

Joan worked for many years at The Groll’s Furniture Store in Waldo as their bookkeeper and occasionally helped with sales.  After leaving Groll’s Furniture Store, Joan worked many years at Whirlpool where she retired with many friends.

Always playing sports, Joan was an excellent golfer into her 80’s and enjoyed bowling in several leagues.

Joan had 3 cats that she loved and cared for.  Caring for them was her passion.

Joan will be missed by her sister-in-law, Shirley Groll of Waldo; nieces, Susie (Richard) Krummenacker, Mary Groll; nephew, William G. (Carol) Groll; great-nieces and nephews, Ashley Ciola, Kelley (Ben) Young, Michelle (Trey) Hannah, Douglas (Carol) Richards, William (Stacie) Groll, and Brittany (Brad VanDerKooi) Groll; and great-great nieces and nephews, Dylin and Tony Minor, Hunter Young, Aurora Windham, Finn & Huckleberry Hannah, Christopher Richards, Ava Pernia,  Brinley and Eme Groll and Bronson VanDerkooi.

In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her brother, William “Bill” Groll.

Visitation will be held at Peace Community United Church of Christ, 4061 Columbus-Sandusky Rd S, on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 12 noon until 1 pm.  A 1 pm funeral will be held at the church with Rev. Joel Fetter officiating. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery next to her mother.

Donations may be made in Joan’s honor to The Marion Area Humane Society, Fort Morrow Fire Department or Peace Community United Church of Christ.
