Jess W. Gardner, 86, of Friendship Village, Dublin, died Friday morning May 16, 2003 in Friendship Village following a long illness.

He was born June 20, 1916 in Morrow County to John B. and Flossie Hettinger Gardner, and was graduated from Chesterville High School in 1934.

Jess served in the Army Air Force during WWII in the India-Burmese Theater.

He remained in the aviation industry, and retired in 1980 as Director of Maintenance with Wayfarer Ketch.

He was a member of White Plains Lodge #473 32nd degree, Past President High 12 in Lake Worth, FL. He was a member of Eastern Star in White Plains and American Legion, and enjoyed traveling.

Jess had lived in Florida 17 years and was a member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church. He moved to Dublin in December of 1999, where he attended Northwest Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Geneva P. Oyster Gardner, whom he married September 4, 1937; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Carroll and Lois Oyster of Bellville; two sisters-in-law Gladys Oyster of Bellville and Estella Oyster of Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law John and Alberta Oyster, Leo and Melissa Oyster, Ernest Oyster, Clarence Oyster; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Erma and Russel Kochheiser.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday May 20, 2003 at 11 am in Bellville Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Irvin Hiskey Post #535 American Legion, Bellville. The Rev. Steven Schulte will officiate. The Bellville Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
