Jeffrey Robert Damm

May 18, 1955 ‒ May 02, 2019

Sunbury, Ohio

Jeffrey Robert “Jeff” Damm, age 63, of Sunbury, passed away on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 at home after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Jeff was born May 18, 1955 in Blue Island, IL, son of the late Robert W. and Martha (Kordewich) Damm.

Jeff graduated in 1973 from Robinson High School in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where his family lived for several years due to his father’s employment. Jeff later attended Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL. He worked his entire career in the paint industry. He spent 38 years with Matthews Paint/PPG Industries, serving as the MPC Technical Director for the last 10 years in their Delaware, Ohio plant.

Family described Jeff as a loving, funny, caring, kind, and outgoing man that children and animals were naturally drawn to. He loved trivia and challenging everyone with obscure words and knowledge. He was obsessed with crosswords and reading, especially science fiction.

Known by friends and family as “Jeff the Chef,” he also enjoyed golf, woodworking, and other artistic pursuits, and was proficient with several musical instruments. He loved the water and enjoyed surfing when he had the opportunity. One of his fondest memories was a return trip to Puerto Rico after many years’ absence, visiting old friends and enjoying the time there with his wife. His proudest achievements were raising a loving and successful family and the work he performed in his career.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife of over 41 years, Katherine W. (Walker) Damm, son Justin (Bridgett) Damm, Santa Fe, NM; daughter Jessica Damm, Sunbury; grandchildren Clinton and Woody Damm; brother Jonathan (Jennifer) Damm, Honolulu, HI; and sisters Jane Damm, Cleveland and Jennifer (Stew) Montgomery, Cleveland.

  • Kate, Jesse and Justin…oh how I loved Jiffy ( as I called him). He was an awesome man with so many talents. Love tasting 😍 his cooking everyday at work and he was always challenging us with the word of the day. He made MPC what it is today! He was loved by many and will always be remembered for his kind helping ways. Whatever was needed at MPC he made it happen. He was an awesome man and I for one will miss him so very 💔😭 much! God Bless u all. Praying for better days ahead!;

  • Our sympathies to Katie, Justin & Jesse. Jeff was a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand. We had fun golfing and sitting around the fire pit. You all were great neighbors in Pleasant Prairie.

  • A goodbye to Jeff Damm,
    I just want to take a few moments to say thank you for all the time we spent together as kids, surfing, turning foam into dust and changing liquid resin into fire hazards. The times we spent in the water, making boards in your parent’s garage and traveling around in the monster station wagon loaded with boys and boards are some of the highlights of my youth.
    Quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson: To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children…to leave the world a better place…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
    Again, thank you for your friendship and sharing your success with me.

  • My sincere condolences to Mrs. Damm. Many happy memories of Jeff be with you and your family, and I hope that these promises from the Scriptures comfort you as much as they have me, because Jehovah is the God of all comfort. “Do not be anxious…..but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.” Isaiah 26:4; Philippians 4:6-7 NWT. Peace be with you.
