MANSFIELD: James H. Peterson, 84, of Mansfield passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a long illness.
He was born October 7, 1927 in Gurnsey County to William and Nannie A. (Abrams) Peterson.
A U.S. Army veteran, Jim served in WW II from 1945 to 1947.
On May 23, 1948 he married AnnaMary Henderson with whom he celebrated 52 years of love and joy before her death on July 22, 2000.
Jim worked 42 years at White Westinghouse as maintenance plumber until his retirement in 1985. After retirement he remained a faithful member of the Westinghouse Retirees Club, rarely missing their monthly meetings.
He enjoyed woodworking and loved to go fishing, mostly in local lakes and ponds… one of his favorites was Apple Valley.
He is survived by is three daughters and sons-in-law Cathy Ward of Mansfield, Cimberli and Thomas Tupps of Mansfield, and Cynthia and Timothy Wellborn of Lexington, SC; three grandchildren Carolyn Jo Ward (Pete Rabquer), Amanda K. and Craig Green, and Christopher Todd Coey; three great grandchildren Jacob and Emalie Green, and Levi Rabquer; three siblings and their spouses John and Mary Blair Peterson of FL, Mary Jane Wymer of MI, and Thema and O.C. Ousley of Mansfield; two sisters-in-law Marty Peterson, and Nellie Wisenbarger of Mansfield; his wife’s family: Robert Henderson of Coshocton, Rodney and Karen Henderson of Lorain, Donald and Betty Henderson of MI, Archie and Judy Henderson of PA; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son Jimmy Peterson in 2002 a son-in-law Dennis Ward in 2009, his siblings George, Roy, and William Peterson, Edna Stevens, Rose Hooper, Florence Hooper, Ann Messer, Ede Kimble, Goldie Steele, Charles and Clarence Wisenbarger; his six brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Myron, George, Jr., Delphin, and Eleanor Henderson, and Mildred Smith; and man’s best friend Jim’s Maltese Bouncer.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 5-8 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will be held Friday at 11am in Caesarea Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Lintern will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation be made at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Sandy and Tim Brummage for their care at the Waterford, and to Roy Peterson, Jr. for his care of Bouncer.
