James C. Funk, age 84, of Beech Street, Mount Vernon, passed away on Tuesday January 25, 2005 at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born on August 1, 1920 in Fabius, West Virginia to the late Samuel and Lillie (Sines) Funk. Mr. Funk was a member of the Mt. Vernon American Legion, the Masonic Lodge #291 Utica, the Knox County Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard and was an Army Veteran serving in the United States Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, of over 59 years, Pansy M. (Clagg), two daughters; Roxanna (Thomas) Metcalfe of Fredericktown, Lillie Tablett of Mt. Vernon, three grandchildren; Seth (Matisha Cassells) Metcalfe, Nathan (Mary Milstead) Metcalfe, Alesia (Israel) Schaaf, four great grandchildren; Ridley Metcalfe, Bella Metcalfe, Sierra Schaaf, Lincoln Schaaf, a brother; Arlie (Nova) Funk of West Virginia and three sisters; Mae Baldwin of West Virginia, Geneva Fitzwater of West Virginia, and Armetha Tenney of Virginia. James was preceded in death by four brothers, Hartzel, Marshell, Junior, and Winford Funk.
Friends may call on Thursday at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home from 5 – 7 PM where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 AM. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
