Formerly of Delaware, Ohio
Jacob L. ”Jack” Thomas, age 80 of Ashley passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Marion General Hospital following a 6 month illness.
He was born on May 30, 1937 in Delaware to the late Charles E. and Marie (Boring) Thomas. Described as a hard worker, he was a painter for both the former H. H. Rardon Casket Company and VP Hydraulic Products of Delaware.
Jack married the former Janet (Hodson) in 1958 and together they shared 45 years until her passing in 2003. In 2007 a co-worker introduced him to his grandmother Wilma (Daniel) and they were soon married, sharing the next 10 years carrying each other’s needs.
An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cheering for the Buckeyes of The Ohio State University. Jack loved to mow grass and with a passion for Christmas his home was known for his extensive holiday displays. He was known to impersonate Mary Poppins on a windy day and favored trips to the Amish Country and the Gatlinburg area. He was also a faithful member of Eastside Mission Church.
Ornery and always caring, he was generous, light hearted, and at times cantankerous. Handsome as described by Wilma, he looked like Clarke Gable. He will be remembered for his hard working ways, humorous jokes, and love of family.
In addition to his second wife Wilma, he is also survived by his children: Cindy Thomas of Delaware, Bobbi (Randy) Parmer of Marion, David Thomas of Delaware, Kevin Thomas of Ashley; step-daughters: Debbie (Michael) Bollack of Marion, Sandra Crum of Delaware, Jennifer (Craig) Beck of Marion, 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 16 step-great-grandchildren, half-brother Bill (Florence) Griffith of Delaware, half-sister Marjorie (Robert) Abrams of Marion, nieces, nephews, and friends.
