Herbert S. “Herb” Kruse

June 03, 1928 ‒ April 25, 2021

Westerville, Ohio

Herbert S. “Herb” Kruse passed away on April 25 with his beloved wife and children at his side.

Herb resided at the Inn at Walnut Trail in Sunbury, Ohio for the past three years with his wife of 72 years, Patricia, who survives.

Herb was born on June 3, 1928 in Edgerton, Williams County, Ohio, the son of Herman L. and Alta (Arnold) Kruse. His siblings were Lucille Miller, Frederick Kruse and Shirley Koerner, all of whom predeceased him.

A graduate of International Business School in Fort Wayne, Indiana with a degree in Accounting, Herb was retired from the Prudential Insurance Company, where he enjoyed a 30 year career as a Financial Representative and Manager. Herb was highly regarded within the Company as a trustworthy advisor to his clients, a proven leader to his sales organization and someone who could be counted on to inspire the best in all who worked with him. His efforts were recognized by several President’s Citations, the highest award for Financial Professionals within the Prudential Corporation.

Herbert and Patricia were married on October 30, 1948. Together they raised four children, Mark (Susan) of Ottawa Hills, Ohio, Jane of Mayfield Heights, Ohio, Neal (Kathy), of Sunbury, Ohio and Kevin of Lavallette, NJ. He was preceded in death by his Son-in-law, Stephen Vajda and Daughter-in-law, Marlene Kruse.  “Pop” was the proud grandfather of Jason, Jessica, Justin and Lauren. He was the loving great-grandfather of Kiley, Katelyn, Jacob, Addison, Hudson and Lincoln. His post-retirement years were happily filled with following his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s; golf, field hockey, baseball and soccer careers.

Herb was a devout Catholic and devoted time to his Parish as a lector and volunteer, particularly as a member of the finance committee. His faith in God never wavered.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Walnut Trail and the caregivers from Capital City Hospice for their compassion and care.

Services will be private.

  • My Uncle Herb was a gentle and kind
man. I always enjoyed being around him and my dear Aunt Pat. They were so good to our son, Dan, when he was young and took him and my mother on a trip from Miami to the World’s Fair. Dan had such a fun time. May Uncle Herb Rest In Peace forever with God and all the Saints.
