Henry “Dean” Butler

November 22, 1938 ‒ May 04, 2017

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: Henry “Dean” Butler passed away after a long battle with cancer Thursday, May 4, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family. He was 78.

He was born November 22, 1938 to parents Charles S. & Jessie E. (Benton) Butler in Mansfield. Henry was a graduate from Mansfield Senior High. He proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Army with the Company F 145th infantry.

On December 28, 1963, he married Iva “Jean” Stephens and they spent 53 wonderful years together.

Dean worked as a tool and die maker, where he worked for many years before retiring. He was a member of AmVets Post #31 and was a lifetime member of Pleasant Hill Boating Club.

In spare time, he took pleasure in golfing, gardening and taking meticulous care of his law (after all there was only one way that the lawn can be cut correctly). He also enjoyed attending car shows with his 1986 Hardtop IROC Z28 Camero and of course being out on the lake and fishing whenever possible.

He is survived by wife Iva “Jean” Butler; daughter Penny Whitmeyer; K-9 kid Banka; grandchildren Amy (Jeff) Parsons, Lisa Gable and Brian (Stacie) Whitmeyer; great-grandchildren Ashleigh, MacKenna, Landon and Lex, Zackary, Xander and Aurora, Corbin, Josslyn and Gavin; brother Charlie Butler; sister Marion Rose.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

The Butler family will receive friends, Monday, May 8, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Tuesday May 9, 2017 from 1 to 2 p.m. with the funeral service beginning promptly at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Iva Butler to assist with the care of his great-grandson.
