Henry D. Wilson Jr., 88 of Columbus and formerly Sunbury died Tuesday evening August 11, 2009 at St. Ann’s Hospital with his wife by his side.
He was born on February 20, 1921 in Sunbury to the late Henry D. Sr. and Nellie (Saunders) Wilson. He was a graduate of the Sunbury High School and The Ohio State University where he played baritone in the marching band. A WWII Marine Corp Veteran, Vocational Agriculture teacher at Ross High School in Hamilton and a farmer in the Sunbury area for over 60 years.
Henry was a member of the Sunbury United Methodist Church, 65 year member of Sparrow Lodge No. 400 F&AM and Past Master, Columbia Chapter No. 33 OES and Past Patron, Horeb Chapter No. 3, Zabud Council No. 99, Mount Vernon Commandery No. 1 and the Farm Bureau for over 50 years.
Henry enjoyed growing gladiolus, farming and everything associated with it.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Cathryn (White) Wilson and they were married July 28, 1946; brother: Raymond (Carolyn) Wilson of Highland, Mi.
Preceded in death by brothers: John and Elliott.
Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Masonic Service at 8 p.m. and Eastern Star Service to follow. Funeral services will be held Saturday 1 p.m. at the Sunbury United Methodist Church, 100 W. Cherry Street, Sunbury with Rev. Brian Smith officiating and friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Sunbury Memorial Park.
