Helen Marie Baker, age 86, of Mount Vernon, a resident of the Country Club Retirement Campus since September of 2004, died Tuesday November 15, 2005 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following a two year illness. Helen was born February 24, 1919 in Coshocton County to Floyd and Bertha (Mizer) Strouse and had spent most of her lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. She had been employed for several years as a dietician at Mercy Hospital then Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Helen was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon where she had served on the Deaconate. She was also a member of the Fredericktown Garden Club. Helen enjoyed working in the flower gardens at her home and making her own floral arrangements.
Surviving is her husband of 64 years Clyde F. Baker; her daughter Olivia M. Frazee of Mount Vernon; her granddaughter Alice (Steven R.) Cline of Mount Vernon and two sisters-in-law Helen Strouse and Lenore Strouse. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Maxine McFadden and four brothers Thurman Strouse, Kenneth Strouse, John “Foy” Strouse and Bernard Strouse.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 PM to 8 PM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home.
