Helen J. Freeman, age 102 of Galena died Thursday morning November 10, 2005 peacefully at her son and daughter-in-laws residence where she has been residing for the past four years..

She was born in Gahanna, Ohio on April 16, 1903 to the late William and Fannie (Ferson) Colebeck. A graduate of Orange High School Class of 1921, she was a resident of Genoa Township for the past 80 years.

Helen attended the former Africa Wesleyan Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards, and was wonderful cook and baker, known for her baked bread and enjoyed animals, especially cats.

Survived by Son: William “Bill” (Barbara) Freeman of Galena, Grandchildren: Bill (Lois) Freeman of Galena, Melissa (Thomas) Bell of Galena, Great-grandchildren: Afton, Anne, Ada Freeman, Lauren, Nathan, and Clayton Bell, nieces, nephews, and a host of foster children.

Preceded in death by her husband of 56 years: Afton J. Freeman in Sept. 1979, and sister: Edith Ross in Sept. 1996.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Africa Cemetery, with Pastor Wayne Booth officiating. Honoring the request of Helen, calling hours will not be observed and arrangements have been entrusted to DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury.
