Harry Wirstrom

September 02, 1924 ‒ April 19, 2017

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: Like the fine and unusual wines Harry Wirstrom prided himself on, he didn’t “get older”…with age, he only “got finer.”

Harry passed away Wednesday afternoon April 19, 2017 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was 92.

Born September 2, 1924 in Mayfield Heights to Carl and Dorothy (Wollerman) Wirstrom, he served with the U.S. Air Force in the Philippines during WWII, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Case Institute of Technology.

He and his wife Joan (Broeske) married April 7, 1951, and together they put a lot of work into their home while living in Pepper Pike.  They entertained and hosted wine tastings, and Harry worked with Pesco Products, a division of Borg Warner.

They moved to Mansfield in 1978 to accept a position with Gorman Rupp, and retired as a Regional Sales Manager.

He enjoyed gardening at a farm on Coursen Road, traveling (Australia, New Zealand, Europe and China), and ventured out daily for shopping expeditions.

Harry was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Mansfield.

He is survived by his wife Joan (Broeske) Wirstrom; their children Kathy (Jeff Taggart) Wirstrom of Ann Arbor, MI, Eric (Lori) Wirstrom of Machesney Park, IL, and Brandt Wirstrom of La Mesa, CA; grandchildren Jessie, Lillie, Christopher and Kasandra; great grandchildren; sisters Carolyn Allen of Kirtland, Betty Wirstrom of Chardon; brother-in-law Dale Broeske of Bellville; sisters-in-law Donna Williams of Dover and Darlene (Nile Kamp) Gray of Waynesfield; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sisters-in-law Ardyth (Hal) Riechers and Jean Broeske; and brothers-in-law Paul Allen, Don Williams, and Rod Gray.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. in First English Lutheran Church, 53 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, with The Rev. Paul Larson officiating. Friends may call on the family the hour prior to the service.
