Harold E. “Red” Lackey

July 06, 1928 ‒ January 22, 2013

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Harold E. “Red” Lackey, age 84, of Mount Gilead, died Tuesday morning, January 22, 2013, at his residence.

On July 6, 1928, Harold was born in Bryan, Ohio, the son of the late Emmett and Fern (Welhalf) Lackey. He graduated from Bryan High School in the Class of 1946.

Harold married Shirley E. Ball on January 23, 1949 in Pioneer, OH. They shared almost 64 years of marriage, raising four children along the way.

Harold spent most of his career working in sales. He spent 11 years at Western Auto as a regional manager before he moved on to Newsome Supply in Marion. There he spent 8 years selling appliances, carpet, and kitchens. He also enjoyed managing the trailer court they lived in for over 20 years.

Even though Harold was laid back, he always was concerned with taking care of his family. He would take his wife to bingo, helped her with her Avon orders, and even was a very good cook. As Shirley’s health had been failing the last few years, Harold had been a wonderful caretaker for her.

Harold will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley, of Mount Gilead; two sons: Craig (Lynn) Lackey of Perrysville, Jeff Lackey of Reynoldsburg; two daughters: Dawn Lackey of Martel, Renee (Thom) Kannally of Worthington; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by two brothers: William and Vinton; a sister, Maxine; and a nephew, Mike.

The Lackey family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating his life will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Humane Society of Morrow County, and may be made in care of the funeral home.
