Mount Gilead, Ohio

Glenna R. Dixon, 72, of Mount Gilead died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Facility.

She was born in Owenton, Kentucky on June 6, 1935, the daughter of the late Andrew K. Hammond and Ada C. (Mason) Hammond of Corinth, Kentucky.

On July 18, 1952 she married Don Dixon; a union and friendship that have lasted 55 years.

Glenna has been active in the community for nearly 45 years. You may remember her working at her daughter’s store, “Just Looking”, in Mount Gilead or for her son at Edison Village Carpet; a business which she also owned from 1997-2003. Even as adults she continued to help her kids out in any way she could. She reveled in her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.

A faithful woman Glenna was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Gilead for 35 years. She taught Sunday school and served on various boards and committees.

Glenna also volunteered for the Morrow County Hospital Auxiliary as a Rainbow TWIG.

In her spare time Glenna enjoyed bowling and even belonged to the Ladies Housewives League.

She was happiest working outdoors in her perennial flower garden, but enjoyed walks on the beach and spoiling her grandkids. Some of her most cherished memories are those had while vacationing with her family in the Daytona/Orlando, Florida area.

Glenna will be remembered for her welcome smile and caring, helping nature. She was always there for her family, friends, and neighbors.

In addition to her mother and husband she is survived by her son Donald Steven (fiancé Kandy Britt) Dixon of Galion, Ohio; her daughter Darlene (Gary) Vail-Eckert of Mount Gilead, Ohio; three grandchildren, Cherry and Benjamin Vail and Jared Dixon; her brother Zemer Hammond of Corinth, Kentucky; and her sister Kay Evans both Corinth, Kentucky.
