Gladys Fitch, age 82 of Marengo died early Friday morning, June 2, 2006 in the emergency room of Morrow County Hospital in Mt. Gilead.
Born on March 24, 1924 in Martin County, Kentucky, she was the daughter and one of twelve children born to the late Garfield and Elizabeth (Mills) Horn. At the age of thirty she moved to Columbus, where she resided until 1977, when she became a resident of Marengo. A seamstress at heart, Gladys worked as a quilt machine operator for the former Simmons Mattress Company in Columbus.
A devoted member of the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead, she enjoyed gardening, quilting, camping and attending the Morrow County Fair.
Survived by her daughter and care provider: Jessie Mae Spaulding of Marengo, 3 Grandchildren: Tom (Kim) Spaulding Jr., Bill (Theresa) Spaulding, Liz Spaulding, 9 Great-grandchildren: Jason, Jamie, Janae, Valori, Nikki, Megan, Sydney Spaulding, Allison & Austin Welty, Brother: Clyde Horn of Kentucky, Sisters: Dixie Crum of Mansfield, Ruby Mills of Marion.
Preceded in death her husband: Hobert Fitch on October 17, 1993, Son-in-law: Tommie R. Spaulding Sr. on March 30, 1998, Grandson: Hobert “Peanut” Spaulding on August 16, 1995, Brothers: Carl,Earl, Printis, and Ollie Horn, as well as Sisters: Flora Johnson,Margie & Eula Horn and Iva Hammons.
Gladys’ family will greet friends Sunday 2 – 5 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at SR 61, Sunbury. Funeral services will be held Monday 11:00 a.m. at the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church, 5560 SR 95, Mt. Gilead, with Rev. William Kirk officiating, burial will follow in the Marengo Cemetery.
