Gladys A. Johnson, age 70, of Eastmoor Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2006 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon following a long illness.
She was born on November 11, 1935 in Knox County, a daughter of the late George and Nora Marie (Melick) Rine. Gladys loved to crochet and play bingo. She had worked for Kenyon College in Gambier for several years.
Gladys is survived by her loving husband, Neil Johnson whom she married on June 11, 1951 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana; sons, Rick (Bea) Johnson of Mount Vernon and Charles (Lisa) Johnson of Gambier; grandsons, Bryan and Bradley Johnson of Gambier; step grandchildren, Bill, Ken, Myron, Aaron, and Sherri; sister, Betty Shoults of New Lexington; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur and Lester Rine; and sisters, Helen and Etta Rine.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with Mr. Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier.
Memorial contributions may be to the Palliative Care at Knox Community Hospital, 1330 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 in Gladys’ memory.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Laurels of Mount Vernon and the Knox Community Hospital for the care that they gave to Gladys over the last couple of years.
