Gilbert “Jesse” James, age 85, of Mount Gilead, died Thursday evening, January 22, 2015, at the Woodside Village Care Center.
On December 16, 1929, Jesse was born in Fulton, OH, the son of the late Charles Joseph and Oral Imo (Doty) James Truex.
He served for a brief time in the United States Marines and was then employed for a short time at Erie Railroad before being hired by Galion Iron Works for 34 years, retiring in 1990.
Throughout the years Jesse enjoyed hunting and fishing, going to the fair, craft shows, and steam engine shows. He also enjoyed traveling out west.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Brenda Jean (Burky) James, whom he married July 8, 1970; a son, Rex A. (Vicki) James; a daughter, Dawn (Steven) Stoeckle; a step daughter, Kelli (Leslie) Robbins; 2 granddaughters, 1 step grandson and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen June Noakes and Geneve Grace Price; and a half brother, Thomas “Tommy” Truex.
Jesse’s family will greet friends from 1 – 3 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2015, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring his life will be held there at 3:00 p.m. with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the active duty U.S. Marines, VFW Post 8054, and AmVets Post 87 will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Heartland Hospice or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Ohio, and may be made in care of the funeral home.
