Gerald “Jerry” Arnold Vogt, 87, of Oxford, Michigan and more recently of Columbus, Ohio passed away early Tuesday morning August 2, 2016 at Our Family Home in Columbus.

He was born May 9, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Charles and Mathilda (Meisel) Vogt. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Jerry worked as a commercial artist for General Motors for 25 years and had also worked for Arrow Detroit and Coca Cola. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Oxford, Michigan which played an important part in his life. He was also a member of the Seven Ponds Nature Center in Dryden, Michigan and various artist groups.

He enjoyed painting, wood carving and playing cards especially cribbage. Extremely outgoing, he was also cantankerous at times and a practical jokester. Described as very crafty and as a handy man, Jerry was most proud of his family and his art work, which included oils and watercolors.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Matthew (Kelly) Vogt of Delaware, Ohio; daughters, Peggy Vogt of Federal Way, Washington, Cynthia Vogt of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Jennifer (Len) Braner of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two grandchildren, Claire and Ryan.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a brother Harold and a sister Leona O’Neil.

Celebration of life services will be held 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive (formerly 1510 W. William Street), Delaware, Ohio and friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow at a later date in Michigan.

In later years, I always got a kick out of Jerry, especially when he’d ramp up about something. He’ll be missed and I was saddened to hear he’s left us. All my love to every one of you. xo
