MANSFIELD: George M. Gallo, 62, of Preakness Drive, Mansfield, died early Saturday morning, August 30, 2008 in his home following a brief illness.
George was born on March 2, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland to Michael and Nellie (Phillips) Gallo.
As a teenager, George entered into the United States Marine Corps. serving two tours in Vietnam. A patriot at heart, he served his country with honor and never once requested special recognition.
Recently, George was manager at Swifty’s Gas Station located on Springmill Street.
He was a member of the Robert Spreng AMVETS Post #26.
Known as a “man’s man” George rarely complained and seldom expressed his feelings. He loved woodworking and building anything with his hands. Although “tuff” at heart George enjoyed the companionship of his pet Maltese, Micah, but most of all found great joy just spending time with his family, especially with his grandson.
George is survived by his wife Karen (White) Gallo, daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Chris Kautz of Mansfield, daughter Candace Warrick and Todd Hite of Mansfield, son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Chasity Cadle of Lucas; two grandchildren Jacob Cadle and Chelsie Morris; along with numerous extended family.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved friend, Micah.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday September 3, 2008 from 12 p.m. to 1p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will begin immediately following visitation at 1p.m. Burial with military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran’s Burial Detail will be held in the military section of Mansfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Southern Care Hospice may be made at the funeral home.
