George F. Nekervis

George Foley Nekervis, 62, died on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 in the Crown Point Care Center in Columbus, Ohio.

He was born in Gary, Indiana on October 27, 1942, the son of Robert J. and Genevieve (Foley) Nekervis. He moved to Columbus soon thereafter, graduated from University High School in 1960, and earned a B.S. in Education from The Ohio State University in 1966. After teaching in the Columbus Public Schools, George followed his love of skiing; becoming the General Manager of Peek’N Mountain ski resort in Pennsylvania and Snow Trails and Mad River Mountain ski resorts in Ohio. Following his move to Madison, WI in 1973, he joined the Headco Division of Dewey Electronics and developed snowmaking installations across the U.S. and Japan. He later co-founded Ski View Corporation and served as its Vice President. Following the sale of Ski View, George purchased and operated the Lancaster Liquor Locker in Fairfield County.

George is survived by former wife and dearest friend Karen Craig Nekervis; father Robert James Nekervis of Avila Beach, CA; daughter Erin DuMars Nekervis of Chicago, IL; son Robert James Nekervis II of Powell, Ohio and his wife Amber Hejtmancik Nekervis; sister Robertine Ann Freshwater of Eagle Harbor, MI; a brother-in-law Paul Ross Freshwater; a nephew Ross Foley Freshwater of Chicago, IL; and his best friend Tom Reynard of Cincinnati, Ohio.

A celebration of his life will be planned in the near future with burial in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Eagle Harbor, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to labmed.org , a Labrador Retriever Rescue organization. Arrangements are in care of the Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Gilead.
