George E. Edwards, 86, of Galion passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born July 22, 1934 in Colley, Virginia and was the son of Linden and Jettie (Hackney) Edwards. George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Myrtle L. (Branham) Edwards whom he married on July 5, 1956. All of his family and most of those acquainted with him, knew him to be a loving, caring and devoted husband. Another element of his legacy was his faith and service to Christ and the church.

He graduated from Haysi High School in Haysi, Virginia in 1953 and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. George retired in 1991 from General Motors in Ontario after 32 years where he was a production supervisor for the last 22 years.

He moved to Galion from Mt. Gilead in 1964 and was a member of Fresh Faith Community Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Gilead.  George enjoyed being involved and active in Masonic work and a member of the Galion Lodge 414 Free and Accepted Masons where he served as Worshipful Master in 1992, 1995 and 1999. He was also a member of Galion Chapter 142 Royal Arch Masons, a 32nd member of Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus; Bucyrus Council 83 Royal and Select Masons; Mansfield Commandry No. 21 Knights Templer; Aladdin Temple Shrine Valley of Columbus; the Galion Shrine Club and was an honorary Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Gloria (T.J.) McNew, III of Galion and Susan (Dale) Anderbery of Findlay; five grandchildren, T.J., IV and Shannon McNew and Alex, Elyse and Emily Anderbery; four great grandchildren, Adrian, Jaxson, Sydney and Cora McNew, one brother Gene (Lois) Edwards of Kalamazoo, Michigan and two sisters, Gloria Hay of Jackson, Kentucky and Lola (Bill) Barrett of Trussville, Alabama.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilson, Nelson, Vance and Johnny Edwards.

There will be a celebration of life service at a later date.
