God called Gary Dean Gale, age 83, home on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. He is dearly loved by his family, friends and loving wife of 35 years.

Gary is the son of Ruth L. (Shaffer) Gale Beeler and Forest Gale. Both of his parents and step-father Harold H. (Pappy) Beeler preceded him in death. Gary had three brothers who have preceded him, Stewart J. Gale who died in the Korean Conflict, Robert M. (Jean) Gale and William F. (Marian) Gale. Gary lived most of his life in Galion graduating from Galion High School in 1950. He loved Galion and left briefly to serve 20 years in the United States Navy. Returning home on leave he married Ruth Ann Huffman in October 1951. She preceded him in death on May 23, 1977. They have three children, Linda Diane Jordan of Bucyrus, Pamela Jean (Jeffrey) Eutsey of Galion and Gary Dean Gale, Jr. of Galion.

Gary met and married J. Charlene Bachman on April 26, 1980 bringing three step-children into the family; Cynthia Lou Bachman of Mansfield, Michael Shane Bachman of Sana Anna, California and Denise Karen Bachman (Tom Hordnes) of Elgin, South Carolina. They have 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. One grandchild, Johnaphan Aaron Anderson of Dothan, Alabama died at age 26 in 2005.

Gary enlisted in the United States Navy on October 25, 1950 receiving his recruit training at the Naval Training Center in Great lakes, Illinois. He then served at the United States Naval Auxiliary Air Station at Whiting Field in Milton, Florida aboard the USS Luiseno for eight years. Gary transferred to the USS Interpreter as Radioman First class for 12 years where he sent and received communications via Morse code. During his Naval career he lived in Newport, Rhode Island, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Milton, Florida, Balboa, Panama Canal, Hawaii and San Francisco, California. On July 21, 1966 he participated in the recovery of the space capsule Gemini GT 10 aboard the USS Guadalcanal in the Sawgrass Sea receiving the Exalted Order of Space Recovery Experts. Gary received his honorable discharge from the Navy while in San Francisco, California in May, 1970 as Radioman Third Class. After discharge he and his family returned to Galion where he gained employment with the General Telephone Company (Verizon) for 20 years as a switchman retiring in January 1993.

Gary and Charlene were members of the Marion Ohio Hicks and Chicks Western Square Dance Club. They travelled and danced with the club at various square dance conventions and jamborees.

The family will receive friends from Noon to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 at First Lutheran Church, 127 South Columbus Street, Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Matthew Wheeler officiating. Interment will be at a later date.

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crawford County or Richland County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
