G. Marlene Atkinson-Lee

October 07, 1935 ‒ February 03, 2008

Marion, Ohio

G. Marlene Atkinson-Lee, 72, of Marion died Sunday evening, February 3, 2008 at her home after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer. The dignified and brave manor in which she fought inspired all who knew her.

She was born on October 7, 1935 in Caledonia the daughter of the late John and Mattie (Mathews) Rasey.

A resident of the area her entire life she was a graduate of Marion Harding High School in the class of 1954.

On June 30, 1956 she married Donald Richard Atkinson. They were married for 21 years until his unexpected passing in 1977.

Most recently, Marlene was employed by Marion Dresser in the engineering department, working with blue prints until her retirement. Her most important role though, was that of wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.

On July 1, 1995 she married John C. Lee. She recently lost him in March of 2005.

For the past ten years Marlene has attended the Central Christian Church. She looked forward to her Wednesday evening dinner outings with her friends from church.

She always started her weekends off right, going out to dinner every Friday night with “The Gang”.

Marlene was forever looking for ways to stimulate her mind; working crossword puzzles, doing word finds, or watching game shows on television. She could also get lost in Court T.V.

She also enjoyed her crafts, spending time crocheting or performing stitch work.

A woman of great magnitude, Marlene was described as loving, witty, determined, brave, forgiving, caring, and strong. Her family will always remember her bull headed and stubborn nature.

She will be missed by her two children; Diana K. (Christopher) Phillippi of LaRue and Richard W. (Julie M.) Atkinson of Marion; step children Allen Lee of Marion, Mark (Pam) Lee of Plain City, and David Lee of Marion, and Teresa Lee of Marion; eight grandchildren Joel W., Amanda, Andrew, Emily, and William Atkinson and Jackie, Kelly, and Makalah Lee; two great grandchildren Maddalynn and Robbie Persinger; 5 sisters Ruth Dolan of Columbus, Donna Thomas of West Virginia, Katherine (Bill) Hall of Fort Walton, Florida, Norma (John) Miley) of Mairon, and Rita (Robert) Mangrum of Columbus.

In addition to her parents and her two husbands she was preceded in death by brothers Lawrence and Marion Rasey and sisters Bernice, Thelma, and Ida.

Friends may call on the family on Wednesday February 6, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger and Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion. Pastor Naomi Beckel will conduct services there on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Little Sandusky Cemetery.
