Frank Edward Vanausdle

March 27, 1936 ‒ May 23, 2009

Lexington, Ohio

LEXINGTON: Frank Edward Vanausdle, 73, of Lexington passed away Saturday evening, May 23, 2009 in Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following an extended illness.

He was born March 27, 1936 in Ashley to Hubert and Helen (Wyatt) Vanausdle, and was graduated from Elm Valley High School in 1954.

After high school, Frank joined the US Navy serving four years. He was honorably discharged in 1959.

On September 11, that same year Frank wed his young bride “Buddy” Fairley, together the couple celebrated 49 years of marriage.

Frank began his career as a maintenance electrician with North American Aviation in Columbus, where he helped in the production of the Vigilante Aircraft, an advanced carrier based aircraft designed for the US Navy. His career also took him to White Sands text facility in New Mexico for the Apollo Space Mission.

Later, Frank worked for HPM in Mt. Gilead, and for Westinghouse in Mansfield. He retired in 1991 when the shop closed, and remarked that he was the one who “turned the lights out” at the end of their production.

Frank kept his electrical skills sharp after retirement, always tinkering with a broken appliance or toy, using mix and matched parts and thinking of ways they could be restored again.

He and Buddy spent many years of their retirement traveling the United States and Canada in their travel trailer. They saw many of our great countries sites, and enjoyed meeting new faces along the way. Frank and Buddy spent much of the winter in Rockport, Texas and the summers in Grand Marais, Michigan.

Frank also enjoyed passing the afternoons drinking coffee with his friends at Decker’s Depot, and never missed a day until he became ill just two weeks ago. Frank was a sports fan, bookworm, and a puzzle solver.

He was also a member of Irvin Hiskey Post #535 American Legion in Bellville.

He is survived by his loving wife Buddy of Lexington, his best friend and lap dog Molly the Jack Russell Terrier, a son and daughter-in-law Tate and Danielle Vanausdle of Columbus and their children Jake and Eddie; daughter Jane Vanausdle of St. Albans, West Virginia and her children Ashley, Rachel, and Buddy; and a son and daughter-in-law Todd and Jill Vanausdle of Bellville and their children Adam and Audrey; a sister and brother-in-law Lauren and Donald Shaffer of Bellville, and a sister Linda Wells of Delaware, along with several nieces nephews and extended family.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Marsha K. Vanausdle.

According to Frank’s wishes, no visitation or funeral service will be observed. The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is assisting the Vanausdle family.
