Frances L. Hessey, age 86 of Delaware passed away at home Sunday, June 12, 2016 surrounded by those whom she loved.

Born on April 11, 1930 in Delaware she was a daughter of the late John W. and Hazel M. (Penn) Hornsby. A lifelong area resident she retired from the former Independent Print Shop where she worked as an assembler.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union in Delaware and looked forward to their Sunday lunch gatherings. Always happy and content, she was most particular, everything had its place. She collected salt and pepper shakers, in particular those with a strawberry or red bird theme. Frances made the most of what she had. She looked forward to having her family nearby and leaves a legacy of love for her treasured family and most especially her grandchildren.

Survived by her son William (Bonnie) Porter of Delaware, grandchildren: Warren (Jennifer), Wesley (Julie) Porter, great-grandchildren, Savannah, Madeline, Christian, Dakota , and Dylan Porter, brothers Leland (Velma) Hornsby of Texas and Roy (Ellen) Hornsby of Marengo.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands: Samuel Porter of 25 years who died in 1976 and Thomas Hessey of almost 28 years who died in 2005,  as well as granddaughter Tonya Porter, and brother John Hornsby.

Friends may call Thursday 5-8 p.m. at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Dr., Delaware where services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday with her grandson Pastor Warren Porter and Pastor William Benner officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband in Oak Grove Cemetery.

  • Lucille you will be missed. I send my condolences to her family as I feel like part of her family, She babysat us as very small children and was part of our life always. We looked at her as our second mom. Rest in peace.
