Frances E. Wood Sumption

Frances (Bechtol) Wood Sumption, Marengo area centurion passed away Monday, September 13, 2010 at Bennington Glen at the age of 101.
She was born in Coshocton on January 10, 1909 to the late Leonard and Cora (Lowe) Bechtol. A graduate of Keene High School in 1927, she was the class valedictorian. She then attended Bliss Business College, where she met her husband of 50 years, Richard Wood. For over 30 years she worked in the payroll department of Ross Laboratory, many which were spent using an Elliott – Fisher Bookkeeping Machine. She moved to Marengo 43 years ago from the Hyatts area of Delaware County.
A member of Worthington United Methodist Church, she attended the White Lilly Chapel in Ashley, where she gave freely of her time in preparing the Wednesday meals. An avid vegetable gardener, she was always busy and always willing to help with any endeavor. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and quilting, treasures for her loved ones.
The matriarch of her family, she loved children, especially infants and toddlers. A wonderful cook, dinners were a five course affair and her spaghetti will long be remembered.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughter: Karen (Jack) Fishburn of Marengo, son: Kendall (Madonna) Wood of Coshocton, Grandchildren: Denise (Dana) Aumend, Dan “Boone” (Debbie) Fishburn, Kendra (Chester) Kusmich, Kyle (Beth) Wood, 8 Great-grandchildren: Devin, Travis, Renae, Jeremiah, Elizabeth, Katherine, Alyssa, Conrad.
She was preceded in death by husband’s Richard Wood in 1980, Milton Sumption in 2002, brother: Raymond Bechtol, and Sister: Edna Eberwine.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 229, Marengo, where services will follow at 4:00 p.m., with Dr. Rev. Lucian Baker officiating, interment will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery.
