Fleet O. Baker

Fleet O. Baker, 97, of Galion, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus from complications of a fall in his home six months ago.
Born July 30, 1913 in Morrow County, he was the son of the late Fleet and Addie Rinehart Baker. He was preceded in death on Aug. 5, 1994 by his wife, Ellen G. McGinty Grimmer Baker whom he married on Oct. 19, 1971.
He was a graduate of Leesville High School in 1932 and a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Fleet had several hobbies including building doll houses, scaled replicas of people’s homes and making wooden puzzles. He was a general contractor for 75 years in the Galion area where he did remodeling, home renovations, built homes and log cabins. He also farmed during his younger years.
He is survived by two stepchildren, Billie Jean McKee of Galion and David Luz Grimmer of Shelby; his special friend, Mary Wintermute of Galion; many step-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, including Pat Bev Baker of Galion.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, two brothers, Lee Baker and Dale Bails and three sisters, Glee Allen, Belva Garverick and Martha Ferris.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 8652 State Route 19, South of Galion with Pastor Gary Lamb-Hart officiating. Following the service a luncheon will be served at the church. Interment will be in Iberia Cemetery at a later date
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Richardson-Davis Funeral Home, 218 S. Market Street, Galion, Ohio 44833 to help offset funeral expenses.
