Evelyn B. Lee, 84, of Delaware died Saturday afternoon (Oct. 15, 2011) at the SICU, Ohio State University Hospital Medical Center.
Born on January 5, 1927 to Arthur and Mary Whitcomb Battles in Chesterland, OH. She graduated from Chester High School in 1943 and from OSU in Dec. 1947. She received a B.S. in Home Economics and was a member of Chimes, Mortar Board, Phi Upsilon Omicron and Omicron Nuhonoraries, and Alpha Gamma Delta service sorority. Married Richard Earl Lee on August 23, 1947. They lived in Ada, Ohio before moving to Delaware in 1949. Taught school in the Dola School System and then at Willis High School.
Her joys were family, friends, and volunteering. Active in the First Baptist Church of Delaware for more than 62 years; member of Delaware County Home Economists; PEO Sisterhood-Chapter CW;Delaware Women’s Club. Served as a Cub Scout Den Mother; Homestead Guys & Gals4-H advisor for 26 years; received the 1994 State 4-H Alumni Award; two terms on the Delaware City School Board including service as vice president & president; Church Women United; long-time board member of Delwood Children’s Home of Delaware; served on Agricultural Home Economics & 4-H Extension Committee. Delaware Speech and Hearing Board; Volunteer for American Red Cross and Andrews House Second Friday Dinners.
Survived by two sons, Richard E. (Marcia) Lee Jr. and Douglas A. (Linda) Lee; daughter-in-law: Barbara N. Lee. Six grandchildren Bethany (David) Wray, Daniel (Brittany) Lee, Justin Lee, Brittany Lee, Alexander Lee and Jocelyn Lee.Great grandsons Elijah and Judah Wray; sister-in-law: Carol Battles; eight wonderful and special nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Proceeded in death by parents, husband of 43 years in 1990 and son Bruce Lee in 2000, sister Arvilla B. Lee, brother Thomas Battles and nephew Ben Lee.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19th, 2011 at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, with Pastors David Wray and Tim Chesser officiating. The Lee family will greet friends following the memorial services. Body donation to OSU Medical Center.Private burial at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware. Arrangements have been entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Delaware.
