Ethel C. Evans
July 30, 1924 ‒ July 02, 2007
Ethel C. Evans, age 82, of Fredericktown died Monday afternoon July 2, 2007 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born in Harts Creek, West Virginia on July 30, 1924, the daughter of the late Richard and Jessie Elkins Vannatter.
Ethel moved to Columbus in 1950 where she resided until moving here in 1988. She worked as a seamstress for St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville and Atlas Linen in Columbus until her retirement.
While sewing was her vocation she had no problem bringing her work home with her; making her own cloths, her daughter’s baby doll cloth’s, or even pillows. It was said “there was nothing Mom couldn’t sew”.
She loved to sing, especially hymns, and even sang in a family quartet many years ago.
Ethel also took great pride in harvesting the family garden. It pained her greatly to do the planting but she loved the finished product.
She is survived by two daughters Jessie Stanley and Janet (Rusty) Porter both of Fredericktown; six grandchildren Kenneth (Daliah) Parsley, Tim (Tracy) Parsley, John (Wendy) Morgan, Eli Stanley, Jimmy Gibson, and Jacqueline (Isaiah) Jordan; several great grandchildren; a sister Nina Azbell of Lancaster, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews and their children.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands Burgess Napier and William H. Evans; brother Virgil Vannatter; half brothers Ermel and Charlie Cook; half sister Edith Simpkins; special nephew Richard “Dickie” Vannatter; and a special niece Sally Ann Moss.
Friends may call on the family on Thursday July 5, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead. Funeral services will be held there on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
