Ellen L. Willis, 82, of Sunbury, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital.
Born in Columbus on June 25, 1929 to the late Lauris L. and Mabel (Magill) Chambers, Ellen was raised in Mount Vernon. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1947 and began her first job working for Continental Can Company. She later retired after 44 years of service.
She ultimately met the love of her life, Delbert in 1971. They were married on January 19, 1973 in Worthington. She was the most wonderful person he ever knew. Not a day went by that they did not say “I Love You.” She was a member of Community Christ Church in Westerville since 1973 and currently served as treasurer.
Ellen is survived by her husband of nearly 39 years, Delbert Willis; son Bruce (Myra) Willis; grandchildren Jessica and James Willis and their mother Marianne; niece Ellen Gilmore; nephew Tim Wolf; sister-in-law Kay (Everett) Turner; as well as many other nieces and nephew.
In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her sister Elaine Wolf and Elaine’s husband, Bob; great nephew Chad Gilmore; 1 additional brothers-in-law; 7 sisters-in-law.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 -6 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury where services will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Elder Dan Hoover presiding. Interment will be Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in Little Mound Cemetery, Richmond Dale, Ohio.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
