Ellen E. McClain, age 74, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at her residence. She was born in Gambier, on July 6, 1940 to the late Thomas and Audrey (Jones) McKee.

Ellen worked as a nurse’s assistant for many years and loved helping her patients. She was very caring and would do anything she could to help people out. Ellen loved to bowl and was part of the Mount Vernon and Fredericktown bowling leagues for many years. She also enjoyed tending to her flower garden. One of her favorite things to do was going out to dinner and shopping, but the love of her life was her grandchildren and family.

Ellen is survived by her four children, Roger McClain, Dean (Gabriele) McClain, Candie (Bud) Williams and Patti (Nick) Ferra; grandchildren, Roger McClain Jr., Samantha Ramadani, Kelly Stumbaugh, Keith, Kristen, Krystal and Klayton Williams, Michael and Robin McClain, Julia, Antonio, and James Ferra; sisters, Carolyn Hallman, Marilyn Keyes, Sam Hogrebe, Linda McKenzie and Lois Reamsnider; brothers, Bob, Rick and Don McKee; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers, Jim, Clarence, Karl, Walter, Roger and Wayne McKee, a sister, Sue Nottingham.

The family will observe calling hours on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 4-7 PM with a service on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11 AM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home; 201 Newark Rd. Mount Vernon, Oh, with Rev. Marvin Haught officiating.

I’m blessed to know her daughter Patti and her grandchildren – Mike, Robin, Julia, Antonio, & James – and they are some of the kindest, gentlest, and most wonderful people I know.
