Edwin Anthony Senecal, 68, of Delaware, died Sunday morning at the Arbors of Delaware Nursing Home after an extended illness.

He was born December 15, 1940 in Grand Marais, Mich. to Edward and Lavina (Burkett) Senecal. He was a United States Army veteran serving from 1959 to 1963, during which time he served in Giessen, Germany. He worked for the A and E Division of MDOT and later became supervisor and then eventually retired in 1997. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Delaware and he enjoyed restoring cars, auto racing, and attending car shows. He also enjoyed the outdoors, reading non-fiction, and music.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Phyllis (Neff); daughter, Christy (Jim) McLeod of Sunbury; son, David (Jasmin) Senecal of Delaware; five grandchildren, Michael, Anna, Max, and Lucy McLeod and Seth Senecal; three brothers, Paul of St. Louis, Mo, Joseph (Pia) of Bakersfield, Calif, and John of Grand Marais, Mich; five sisters, Marla Overlin of Grand Marais, Mich, Delphin Ryter of Schaumburg, Ill, Charlene Bamford of Redmond, Wash., Trisha (Race) Jones of Anchorage, Ala, and Bethlene (Bob) Micander of McMillan, Mich; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charlie and an infant brother at birth.

A memorial mass to celebrate Edwin’s life will be said by the Rev. James Black at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 82 E. William St., Delaware. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the start of the services at the church. The St. Mary Bereavement Committee will then host a reception for family and friends immediately following the services in the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home Community Room.
