Dr. D. Richard Mosher, D.D.S., 76, of 806 Brentwood Dr., Galion, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, after a brief illness.
Born Mar. 21, 1931 in Morrow Co., he was the son of the late Donald Mosher and Helen Mosher Sautter.
Dr. Mosher was a Galion Dentist for 38 years on Harding Way West until his retirement 10 years ago. As a young man he was in the Boy Scouts and earned the honor of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Mt. Gilead High School and received both his Bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The Ohio State University. Affectionately known as “Doc”, he was a United States Air Force veteran stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. While living in Mt. Gilead affiliated with the First Baptist Church. Having held many offices in various organizations over the years, he was the past president of the Central Ohio Dental Society and Galion Country Club.
He was a member of the American Dental Association, Galion Elk’s Lodge 1191, VFW Post 4329, Galion Moose Lodge 303, American Legion Post 243, Mt. Gilead Masonic Lodge No. 206, Royal Arch Masons Delaware Chapter No. 54, Royal and Select Masons Marion Council No. 22, Knights Templar Mansfield Commandery No. 21; Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, the Aladdin Temple Shrine in Columbus and Galion Shrine Club. Dick was a former member of the Galion City School Board and the American Red Cross Galion Chapter Board of Directors. As part of the Galion Community Hospital Auxiliary he worked in the hospital’s mail room on Tuesdays each week. Dick was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter and participated with his fellow area fishermen in their annual fishing trip to Canada. After his retirement he enjoyed his daily visits to the Central Garage and the Galion Elk’s.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard B. Mosher, D.D.S. and his wife Carol of Massillon; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marra L. Erwin of Sharon Center and Dina R. and Scott Ashelman of Dayton; four grandchildren, Ellise, Taylor and Morgan Erwin and Claire Mosher; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ned and Janice Mosher of Westerville, Dr. John Mosher, D.D.S. and his wife Debra of Norfolk, Va. and Michael J. Mosher and his wife Debbie of Denver; two sisters, Kathleen Walker of Fullerton, Calif. and Martha Jean Mosher of Columbus and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime companion Sandra Finical Shade and her daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Dennis Russell of Galion and their children Kaylee and Tyson Russell.
He is also survived by his dog “The Baxter,” his best friend.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2007 at First United Church of Christ, 248 Harding Way West, Galion. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Rivercliff Cemetery, Mt. Gilead.
