Ashley, Delaware

Doris J. Whipple, 86 of Ashley passed away Friday evening, February 19, 2021, at the Bennington Glen Nursing Home in Marengo.

She was born December 28, 1934, in Delaware County to the late Lewis B. and Beulah (Roach) Corwin and graduated from Elm Valley High School in 1955 and the Columbus Business School, both of which she was very proud of her accomplishments and for being on the honor roll.

She was well known for her deep love of cats and dogs, whether they were “critters” or someone else’s. She enjoyed her work, reading, and time spent in the sunshine. She also was interested in vintage cars with her husband, especially their 1928/1929 Roadster and 1960 red and white Corvette.

Left to cherish her memory are six nieces and six nephews and by a multitude of good friends.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband Arlo, her brothers George, Ray, John, and Carl “Red” Corwin, sisters-in-law Earlene Whipple, Sally Corwin, and Bonnie Corwin, and her nephews Kevin and Stephen Whipple.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at 11:00 am at Marlborough Cemetery with Pastor Dwight Cimino officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Humane Society of Delaware County, 4920 State Route 37 E, Delaware, OH 43015

  • I met Doris in 1991 and we became friends immediately. She had the most wonderful laugh and a keen sense of humor, and enjoyed most of all when the laughter was at her expense. Arlo was still alive in those earlier years, and he too would join in the storytelling and laughter. She loved her critters, she loved Arlo, she loved seeing each day.

  • I remember going to Whipples in Ashley and was always greeted with such kindness. I also knew Doris in Bennington Glen. She was such a nice lady and always had a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed.

  • I will miss Aunt Doris greatly. She was a special, caring and friendly person, I think she and Steve are visiting again.

  • Worked as Whipple’s from 1993 to 1997 for Arlo and Doris. They loved me like one of their own grandkids! So loving to me, Sorry to here of Doris’ passing but glad she is finally able to join Arlo! Rest in Peace Doris!
