Donald H. Frye
April 28, 1927 ‒ July 11, 2011
Mount Vernon, Ohio
Donald H. Frye, age 84, of Mount Vernon went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a courageous battle with cancer on the early morning of Monday, July 11, 2011. He truly fought the good fight and ran the race that was set before him without a complaint. He loved the Lord, his family, his country, and left behind many friends and loving family members. He never spoke ill of anyone and always had that ornery grin on his face that was his trademark. He loved spending time with his family and friends, whether it was playing euchre or just hanging out. One of his favorite pastimes was attending the local county fairs to watch harness racing. He only missed 1 or 2 Little Brown Jugs in 50 plus years. He was a dedicated employee wherever he worked, and was actively employed until the age of 81.
Don was a 1945 graduate of the former Gambier High School. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and was a member of the Brandon Baptist Church for over 55 years. Don had worked for Schlairet Transfer, Mount Vernon Moving and Storage, and the Ariel Corporation.
Don leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Mary M. (Biggs) Frye; sons, Randall (Becky) Frye and Kevin (Joyce) Frye; 5 grandchildren, Jenny, Robin (John D.) Idoine III, Jesse, Kris, and Beth; 2 great grandchildren, Braedon Lockhart, and John D. Idoine IV; and sisters, Edith Cosner , Norma (Dalton) Magers and Betty Hannan.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse R. and Mary E. (Durbin) Frye; brother, Kenneth; and sisters, Janet Tucker, Shirley Fowler, and Josephine Fowler.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of a memorial service celebrating the life of Don at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon, with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Rd., Mount Vernon, OH or to the charity of one’s choice.
