Donald E. Beery, 78, of Mansfield passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 in the Arbors at Mifflin following an extended illness.

Born in Mansfield on February 14, 1938, he was the son of Bill and Virginia (Gladden) Beery.  Don married Phyllis (Henry) Dearth Beery on September 14, 1985 and the couple was privileged to spend 30 years together.

Don was a veteran of the US Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Tarawa with port calls in many countries.  He retired from Armco Steel in 1997.

Don never knew a stranger and was the life of any party.

He was a member of Ontario First Church of God, AmVets Post #26, past member of Evenings Lions Club and Masonic Venus Lodge, was a long time volunteer at Toy-Time and for the Salvation Army meals program, as well as R.S.V.P  He also enjoyed traveling, dining out and crossword puzzles.

Don was an avid golfer, spending time at many area courses and in various leagues.

In addition to his wife Phyllis, Don is survived by children Debra (Jon) Hogan of Mansfield, Don (Cheryl) Beery of Russells Point, and Steven (Carla) Dearth of New London; six grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings Jack (Joni) Beery of Tennessee, Alan (Connie) Beery of Candlewood Lake, and Carole (Jack) Bozeman of Florida; brothers-in-law Robert and John Henry; sisters-in-law Eileen Sayre and Carol Maduri; numerous nieces, nephews, special friend and best golfing buddy: Bill Kozma.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Charity Beery; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary (Larry) Murphy, Margaret (Charles) Hause, Ann Henry, and Max Sayre; niece Marsha Hause; nephews Todd Henry and Tim McClarin.

Don’s family will receive friends Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 4-7 pm in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.  Private graveside services will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to 1st Church of God, Ontario, Ohio Health Hospice, or Salvation Army-Mansfield, may be made through the funeral home.
