Don W. Morrison, age 94, of Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born on September 9, 1917 in Gambier, Ohio to the late Frank and Emma (Hunter) Morrison. Don was a 1935 graduate of Gambier High School. He was employed and retired from the Ohio State Highway Department as a Bridge Superintendent after 37 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post #95 Mount Vernon, the Gambier Knights of Pythias, the Pleasant Grange and the Gambier Fishing Club. Don was a previous member of the Harcourt Parrish Episcopal Church and a member of the the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon since the early 1960’s. He was a Veteran serving in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theatre of War. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, of almost 65 years, Ruth (Lucas) Morrison, his daughter Sherre (Steven) Packard of Columbus; his grandson Steve (Deanna) Packard of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Hough, Ethel Wyant, and Marion Fawcett.

Friends may call on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 1 – 2PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will follow beginning at 2PM with Rev. Dr. Keith Stuart officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will be held in Mound View Cemetery.
