Dennis W. Parker
May 22, 1937 ‒ December 14, 2008
MANSFIELD~ Dennis W. Parker, age 71, of Mansfield went to be with the Lord Sunday morning December 14, 2008 from MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a long illness.
He was born May 22, 1937 in Sarton, West Virginia to Lacy Walter and Willie May (Whittaker) Parker, was graduated from Greenville (WV) High School in 1954 and attended West Virginia University.
In 1956 he moved north to Ohio to continue a long distance courtship with the young woman who would become his wife. On June 29, 1957 he married Barbara E. White, and remained her faithful and loving husband for 51 years.
Dennis had worked 26 years in sales and service with Stone Container, as well as 16 years as a custodian with Mansfield City Schools, retiring in March of 2000 in Custodial Maintenance.
Though he was a hard worker and excellent provider, Dennis will be better remembered as a man of faith. He was a member of Diamond Hills Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the trustees, usher, deacon, sang in the choir, and served on the memorial committee.
A former Boy Scout leader, Dennis enjoyed bowling and collecting die cast cars, both Hot Wheels and NASCAR, as well as tinkering with his model railroad layout.
Quite a gifted woodworker, he made bookshelves, tables, and coffee tables, but his rocking chairs became heirlooms ~ of the quality to become passed-down through generations.
He is survived by his wife Barbara E. Parker; his daughter Annette Jones of Loudonville; his son and daughter-in-law Craig & Vandy Parker of Pompano Beach, FL; grandchildren Kyle Jones and Stephanie Jones both of Ashland, and Michael Jones of Loudonville; a great granddaughter Elayna Hale; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gene & Patty White of Mt. Sterling, KY, Larry and Sherry White of Inverness, Fl, Ronald and Vonna White of Cardington, Dallas and Carol White of Roseville, CA, Robert and Shirley White of Mansfield, Vaughn and Zoi White of Las Angeles, CA, and Douglas White of Corbin, KY, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
